On Friday, April 4th we had our first annual "We are Bilingual" assembly. This is a new tradition for our bilingual school. With each student in our school learning two languages we are proud of the hard work our students are doing to read, write, speak and listen in both English and Spanish.
Each student received a bracelet "I am bilingual/Soy bilingüe". Being bilingual is powerful and can help us learn about and appreciate different cultures. Today was a special celebration of our first graders as they move into becoming bilingual. We now at this time of the year expect that they can use their Spanish during Spanish instruction time and English during English instruction time. Our first graders are joining the rest of our students in 2nd-6th grade who can use both languages to learn. We celebrated with songs by the third graders, a poem by the fifth graders, quotes by sixth graders, as well as, parents who spoke about being bilingual.
El viernes el 4to de abril tuvimos la primera asamblea "Somos Bilingües". Es una tradición nueva para nuestra escuela bilingüe. Cada estudiante en Trost esta aprendiendo dos idiomas y estamos orgullosos del esfuerzo de los estudiantes en leer, escribir, hablar y escuchar en inglés y español.
